The Receipts and Payments Account of a non-profit making organization is principally a summary of the cash book entries.

This account is similar to a cash book and records all cash transactions. Receipts and payment account record all cash received and all cash paid out during a specific period. 

It does not record credit transactions and non-cash items, which distinguishes it from other financial statements like the income and expenditure account or the balance sheet.
