and he shall drink no wine nor strong drink, … [Luke 1:13-15] The angel alludes to the tradition of Numbers 6:1-12, indicating that John will be a Prophet dedicated to the Lord as a Nazirite. 

he angel told Zacharias that the son to be born to him would:

1) Drink neither wine nor strong drink,

2) He would be filled with the Holy Ghost from his birth,

3) Many of the children of Israel he would turn to the Lord,

4) He would go before the Lord in the spirit and power of Elijah,

And so he would: a) turn the hearts of the fathers to the children

b) turn the disobedient to the wisdom of the just,

c) make ready a people prepared for the Lord.
