Sierra Leone was one of the African countries that did not recognize Biafra as an independent state during the Nigerian Civil War (1967-1970).

Sierra Leone maintained diplomatic relations with Nigeria and supported its territorial integrity and sovereignty. 

It also participated in the peace talks and mediation efforts to end the conflict, along with other members of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) and the Commonwealth
